Lord Immaculate’s Opening Salvo

The first thing I will do as Prime Minister is ensure there are no parts of a DVD which cannot be skipped or forwarded. Legal warnings (threats, I call ’em!), anti-piracy ads, jingles, adverts, oh! and those fancy menu sequences that happen when they leave the computer design graduate in the office while they all bugger off to the pub for a chortle – screw it all! And they can ditch the spoilers on the menu screen, too. Sometimes one is ready to slit the old wrists by the time a movie arrives and the balance of power’s restored to my remote control. We didn’t have to watch them on VHS in the ’80s and we shouldn’t be made to sit through them now. Call that progress? ‘Cos I don’t!
