The first thing I will do as Prime Minister, before any other first things I may already have touched upon, is to link the fortunes of those at the top with those at the bottom.
If cuts are made to workers’ wages, the same percentage must be cut from bosses’ wages. If bosses receive bonuses, the workforce must receive payouts of the same ratio. Bosses award themselves a pay rise of 10%, workers get the same boost. And if anyone is laid off to cut costs, those bosses must not receive bonuses or pay rises for the following 18 months.
As with all measures designed to thrust fairness on them the rich and powerful will look for loopholes and tricks – they’ll try to adjust for and negate the effects – and when they do they’ll find Lord Immaculate there waiting to counter any move they make. I intend to gift them a new affinity with their employees, whether they want it or not.
