Red Hand Gang To The Rescue

It seems the inexplicably popular Yanis Varoufakis and the neutered Eurosceptic Jeremy Corbyn are now part of a gang with a plan. They are going to transform the EU from within. Oh yes they are.

Picture the all-powerful Troika of IMF, EC and ECB. Look to the banking cartels and the big fat corporations. Think of the powerhouse that is Germany, the de facto leader of Europe; and also bear in mind the thousands of Eurocrats who like the EU just the way it is, thank you very much. The unstoppable 1000ft-high steamroller that is the European Union.

Now imagine the likes of John McDonnell and Owen Jones throwing pebbles at it.

The sheer deluded arrogance of believing their clique could go in and change the EU’s structure, settings or destination would be funny if not so pitiful. It would be easier to change the orbit of Mars.

If you don’t like the form this burgeoning, expansionist superstate has taken there is only one realistic resolution and that is to leave while we have the opportunity. Don’t be wise after the event like the voters who were fooled in 1975.

Choices, Choices. Where Are The Choices?

I find myself within the gravitational pull of the frustrating conclusion that since I can’t vote for myself (having suffered a wee cash-flow problem here on the Immaculate estate) I have no suitable candidate whose box to tick on polling day (or any other day).

The No2EU party – a promising left-wing alternative to UKIP – seems to have vanished since the death of Bob Crow, and the TUSC appears to have gone rather vague on opposing the EU’s empire-building. That kind of bottle job will not do for me.

Any yea for No2EU would have been unequivocally anti-federalist in nature, whereas backing UKIP is always dismissed as a protest gesture (and besides, knowing how the dust will settle after the election, giving Nigel the nod would be too much like voting Conservative, which I have never done and never will).

I certainly can’t vote for Labour, Green or the endangered species Lib Dem because we differ on the most fundamental issue of a federal Europe. That leaves me in a void which will be familiar to millions – so many options and so little choice.
